The Institute

We aim in sustainable rural development.

Vivekanand Research and Training Institute is engaged in rural development in Kutch district since 1976, under the valuable guidance of Mr. Kantisen Shroff (Pu.KAKA), it is working in 225 villages of Kutch (Gujarat) district with 110 staff members. The Government of Gujrat has honored it with “A” rank.

Main objective is to promote sustainable rural development with community participation in the areas like rain water harvesting, creating drinking water distribution resources & distribution system, watershed development, prevention of salinity ingress, developing salinity resistant crops, disaster management, livelihood, health & hygiene, education and capacity building programs at village level. Environment friendly activities like tree plantation, eco club, and smokeless chullas are also being carried out. The vision is to develop sustainable economic activities based on agriculture, animal husbandry and rural art and craft.

    In 1987, Kutch faced famine when it received only 3 mm of rainfall and thousands of cattle died.
