River called mother of all which is really true. If we look back to our ancient civilization, human life developed on river banks. It is say that “Water is life” but water scarcity is becoming a major problem in fast growing world and it’s effects are in front of us. This issue must be the matter of concern for all and it is essential to think for appropriate solutions. During the brainstorming about solutions an idea comes in my mind which is “Integrated River Basin Management”. We proceed with the idea that once select a river basin where we can harvest maximum water and utilize it judiciously for integrated and sustainable development of surrounding villages. In initial stage Rukmavati river basin having cluster of 46 villages has been selected. We have started planning phase with basin survey which was necessary. Study reveals that water harvesting should be the priority. We had conversation with our group organizations and concerns government departments regarding the concept and there was warm welcome from all the groups. Meanwhile, we had meeting with chairman of Sardar Patel Sabhagi Jal Sanchay Yojana which resulted in approval of 51 Check dams - a unique project in the basin. This important project has been sanctioned and opened the directions for future responsibilities.
We are going to start the long term work on efficient utilization of water by focusing on occupations like agriculture and animal husbandry where efficiency is required. With that, our approach is to initiate the need based activities for education, health, energy conservation and small scale industries. We are stepping forward to prepare an ideal model by diverting our all resources.
Looking to beginning of the project and co-operation from local people and different organization, It seems that a worth full dream “Back to rivers” will be fulfilled. It will inspire for implementation of various activities in different area. Our expectation from this project is to strengthening our rural society with agricultural revolution and balanced development with industrial development of Kutch at present. I am sure that this annual report will show the reflection of our commitment.
